Shrek & Donkey Aid Bret Michaels After Tony Awards Mishap

Shrek and his animated sidekick Donkey came to the rescue of an injured Bret Michaels after the Poison rocker was hit over head with a piece of descending set equipment at the 2009 Tony Awards on Sunday.
The 46-year-old star of VH1′s reality dating series Rock of Love broke his nose and required three stitches to his lip after he was hit by a large sign being lowered from the ceiling as he exited the stage following the band’s show opening performance.
“He told me, ‘All I remember is Shrek and the Donkey helping me up, and Liza [Minnelli] giving me a towel.’” says Joann Mignano, Bret’s longtime rep.
“And Bret was laughing when he heard [Tonys host] Neil Patrick Harris said he gave new meaning to ‘headbanging,’” Mignano told the magazine.
