*Rapper/G-Unit member* 2001- Shot twice in his neighborhood by what’s believed to be stray gunfire.

17. Marvin Gaye
*Singer, songwriter, composer and record producer* 1984-Gaye moved into his parent’s house after his tour ended and was dealing with bouts of depression. He argued numerous times with his father and it was his father who shot and killed Gaye after an argument over misplaced business documents. Marvin Sr. was sentenced to six years of probation after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

18. Che Guevara
*Argentine Marxist revolutionary, politician and guerrilla leader* 1967-Guevara was executed by the CIA in Bolivia. He was shot in the arms and legs and then fatally in the thorax.

19. Phil Hartman
*Emmy Award-winning writer and actor* 1998-Hartman was fatally shot multiple times in and around the mouth by his drunk wife, Brynn Hartman. After she confessed to the murder, Brynn committed suicide by shooting herself once through the temple.

20. Jam Master Jay
*Founder and DJ of Run D.M.C.* 2002-He was shot and killed in a recording studio in Queens, New York. He was 37 years old.

21. Pope John Paul II
*264th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church* 1981- He was shot by a Turkish gunman as he entered St. Peter’s Square to address an audience and lost almost three-quarters of his blood. He was in surgery for 5 hours to treat his blood loss and abdominal wounds and visited the man who shot him in prison in 1983.

22. John F. Kennedy
*35th President of the United States* 1963-Kennedy was shot twice in the neck and head and pronounced dead at 1:00pm. His assassin was killed before he could be tried or indicted for Kennedy’s death.

23. Robert F. Kennedy
*Attorney General and US Senator from New York* 1968-He was shot after addressing his supporters in his run for presidency by a 24-year-old Palestinian-Christian Arab. (Some think he might not have acted alone.) Kennedy died early the next morning.

24. Martin Luther King Jr.
*American civil rights movement leader* 1968-He was shot while standing on the second floor balcony of his motel room and the bullet entered through his right cheek, smashing his jaw then traveling down his spinal cord before lodging in his shoulder. King was pronounced dead about an hour later.

25. Rodney King
*A taxi driver who was stopped and beaten by the LAPD* 2007-He was shot in the face, arms, back and torso by two thieves attempting to steal his bike. His injuries were characterized as “not life threatening.”

26. Paul Klebnikov
*American journalist of Russian descent* 2004-Klebnikov was attacked on a street in Moscow late at night by unknown assailants who fired at least nine shots at him from a slowly moving car. He initially survived the shots but bled to death when the ambulance took almost an hour to come, it had no oxygen bottle and the hospital elevator that was taking him to the operating room broke.

27. Suge Knight
*Co-founder and CEO of Death Row Records* 2005-Knight was shot in the right leg at a party in honor of Kanye West at Miami’s Shore Club. Rumors swirled that he might have shot himself and few witnesses came forward to verify exactly what happened.

28. Greg LeMond
*Three-time winner of the Tour de France* 1987-LeMond was seriously injured after being shot by his brother-in-law in a hunting accident. It took him two years to recover and win the Tour again.

29. Lenin
*The first de factor leader of the Soviet Union* 1918- An assassination attempt was made against Lenin in January but he wasn’t injured. Another attempt was made in August and this time he was shot in the arm and the juncture of his jaw and neck. Doctors were called because Lenin refused to go the hospital but didn’t remove the bullets because it was too dangerous. The bullet in his neck caused health problems later in life but was too close to his spine for doctors at the time to remove.

30. John Lennon
*Singer, songwriter and peace activist* 1980-Lennon was shot in the back four times on the way to his apartment at the Dakota by a deranged fan. He was pronounced dead when he arrived at the hospital.
