Shakira World Cup Theme Song “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)”
“Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)” English Version
Have you heard Shakira’s new song, “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)?” The single, which features Freshlyground — a South African Afro-fusion band formed in Cape Town — is the official theme song for the FIFA 2010 World Cup, which kicks off in South Africa this summer.
“Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)” Spanish Version
The uptempo track — full of traditional African beats mixed with modern pop rhythms — will be available for download the week of May 11.
Both Shakira and Freshlyground will perform the anthem live at the Johannesburg Soccer City Stadium during the World Cup Final Closing Ceremony on July 11.

Really am taken aback by the shameless display of lack of inspiration and originality by Shakira and here who ever associates. To have been given a task to record an original theme song that reflects south africa and the game and instaed come out with a spineless theft as she did. This is infact an old song of the eighties by a cameroonian group known as Zangalewa.Any Cameroonian around the world who was around in those days knows what i mean when they listen to that song.INFACT she has NO idea what the words she is muttering in that song mean.SHAME to FIFA the SA LOC and Shakira

I’m sure this song is not stolen. Shakira has morals and has from the beginning of her career been very original and creative with her work. I’m sure the rights to the song were given to Shakira by the composer. These sort of transactions must be done well before the new rendition of the song is ever put to public. Otherwise, she would be looking at a lawsuit. Please lets all celebrate this unification of cultures and embrace this new rendition, and lets also not forget the original singer/songwriters of this beautiful African song!! Lets enjoy the FIFA and just have fun!!

I bet nobody gives a damn if Shakira does not know the meaning of the lyrics.. she looks good and refreshing. Anyway congratulation to South Africa in doing an outstanding job organising the biggest event in sports- the world cup.

“We still believe that we can win”
So now the time’s already here
We live in hope and not in fear
To win or lose, to leave or stay
Will be decided on this day
Now we must dare to wish for more
As we have got this open door
The biggest game, the joy it brings
To show the world we can be kings
We still believe that we can win
Even to doubt this is a sin
Already been there we can believe
That we are about to
Win again
Now let the game of games begin
And in our team the strength to win
Will earn us all the right to be
Remembered in our history
And we will prove we are the best
When we have beaten all the rest
Because we’ve got this will to win
That says this time our luck is in
We still believe that we can win
Even to doubt this is a sin
Already been there we can believe
That we are about to
Win again!

There will always be someone out there who will have something negative to say about somebody and the effort he/she makes to make a difference.so what if it is an old song? This song is great. well done Shakira and Freshly Ground.

Whether you want to say the song was stolen or not from the cameroonians, there is a claus every artist has it and falls under the copyright act. Any musician has the right to reproduce a song from any other artist, it has fee to it anyway. Be glad that they choose a stunning song. Besides Everyone is rooting African FIFi and the songs fits perfectly for the theme.

Shakira is a thief and a liar.
First of all she didn’t ask anybody before stealing the song.
The original artists found out she stole their great hit after she released it.
She even dared tell everyone that she was resting at her farm when the lyrics and the music came to her!
what a lie, she knew the song and just stole it.
We do care if she stole the song, it isnt her work and it is too easy to steal from people just because they can’t defend themselves.
this isn’t even the first time she does that, she already did with the hips don’t lie song, she just took dance like this and shook her hips on it.
She doesn’t have any principle, she is not an artist.
