Attention Gentlemen! Start working on those pickup lines. Shakira is now single.
The Colombian-born “Hips Don’t Lie” singer has revealed that she and her beau of 11 years Antonio de la Rue parted ways last summer. On Monday, the pair confirmed that they went their separate ways in August, but have kept the split secret. Until now. In a special message to fans uploaded to the singer’s website Monday, the ex-lovebirds spoke of loving each other “deeply” and wanting to “move forward as partners,” despite their separation.
“Since August 2010, we made a mutual decision to take time apart from our romantic relationship,” Shakira wrote. “Throughout this time we have continued to work together hand in hand, have remained close and have kept the details absolutely private until now.”
“During our almost 11 years together we have loved each other deeply, taken care of each other and stood by one another,” the sultry Shakira continued. “They have been the most wonderful years of our lives, and thanks to that love and the respect that we share for one another we have been an exceptional couple and partners. We move forward as partners, developing projects together, working hand in hand and in close communication.”
Ironically, the award-winning singer/author/humanitarian hinted at a possible reconciliation with Antonio in the future.
“We view this period of separation as temporary and as a time of individual growth as we continue to be partners in our business and professional lives. Our friendship and understanding of one another is unwavering and indestructible…”
The 33-year-old “She Wolf” hitmaker previously admitted she was interested in having children with Antonio, 37.
“Do I have any plans for children? Little wolves? Yeah, of course. I’d really like to have kids, but first I need to go on tour and release this new album – and then we can sit down and talk about it,” she said last year.
