Seth MacFarlane Tapped as 2013 Oscars Host

Emmy-winning Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane will host the 85th annual Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences — which produces the Oscars — announced Monday.

This will be MacFarlane’s first appearance on the Oscar stage, as the 38-year-old succeeds a series of acclaimed hosts — among them Billy Crystal, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Carson, Whoopi Goldberg and Steve Martin. MacFarlane made his directorial debut with the sleeper summer hit Ted, an R-rated comedy about a pot-smoking, foul-mouthed teddy bear

The annual Academy Awards pays tribute to the film industry’s best films, actors and actresses. Seth’s ecstatic to be joining the fold:

“It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars. My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast.”

The 85th Academy Awards will air live from Hollywood Feb. 24 on ABC.
