Sean Penn has petitioned the court for legal separation from his wife of thirteen years, actress Robin Wright Penn, Extra has learned.

Back in 2007, the Oscar-winning star of Milk served Robin with divorce papers — the couple later decided to give their relationship another shot.

Earlier this year, Sean was romantically linked to twenty-something actress Natalie Portman.

The two have been married since 1996 and have two teenage children.
