Scientology and movies aren’t always a good mix

Well. Tom Cruise was set to star as Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, a Bavarian colonel who tried to assassinate Hitler with a bomb but accidentally killed four others instead.

BUT! The Stauffenberg family apparently doesn’t want Crazy Tom Cruise in the role because of his ties to Scientology.

Stauffenberg’s grandfather, Count Casper Schenk von Stauffenberg, said:

I have nothing against [Cruise] and can even separate his work from his beliefs in Scientology…But I and other family members are worried that the picture will be financed by the sect and be used to get across its propaganda. Unfortunately, the family Stauffenberg can do nothing about this. My grandfather is a figure from history.”

I’m sorry but too damn bad for Tom Cruise. He had such a great career going and then he became a total lunatic, so that’s the way it goes.

Well, Herr Stauffenberg, at least it wasn’t a !Jew!, right?

PS: I really doubt that Claus’ grandfather is still around. ;-)

The Germans are nuts about Scientology and I am sure that Stauffenberg was approached “appropriately” to remind him that hell is waiting if he allows a non-catholic/non-protestant to impersonate his grandfather.
