Scarlett Johansson Cast In ‘Ghost In A Shell’
After her recent sify roles in Her, Lucy, and Under the Skin, we are quite aware that the beautiful and talent Scarlett Johansson can take on pretty much any role human or not.
It has been rumored that Dreamworks has casted her (with a $10 million offer) in their adaption of the popular 1995 animated film and manga series Ghost in the Shell, directed by Mamoru Oshii. Johansson will be playing Motoko Kusanagi, a member of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission, a covert ops unit that fights cyber crime in the future. After debilitating accident, she uploads her mind (combined with cyber mind) into a wholly prosthetic body. The whole story is way more than that synopsis, it’s about the world itself, a gorgeous look at the melting of man and machine.
The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the part was also offered to Wolf of Wallstreet’s Marggot Robbie, but Johansson has officially signed on for the live action adaption. If all goes well and it gets greenlit for production– it will be directed by Snow White and the Huntsmen‘s Rupert Sanders. Avi Arad and Steven Paul are producing the film from a sciprt by Bill Wheeler. Dreamworks principal Steven Spielberg is a huge fan of the original and has long wanted to get this film off the ground.
