Australian actor Sam Worthington is being courted to play the lead role in the upcoming Universal Pictures thriller Dracula: Year Zero, Encore Magazine reports.

Worthington, who shot to fame after starring in Avatar and Clash Of The Titans, is set to play Prince Vlad — who is believed to have been the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The film combines the myth of vampire Dracula with the real life historical character Prince Vlad of Transylvania.

The project will go into production in Australia next year.
