Sacha Baron Cohen Sued Over “Bruno” Bingo Hall Prank
A California woman has sued comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, accusing the British star of assault in a Palmdale bingo hall encounter she says occurred during filming for the upcoming movie Bruno that has left her in a wheelchair.
On May 33, Richelle Olson sued the 37-year-old actor and NBC Universal on May 22, claiming an incident at a charity bingo tournament that was filmed for the summer comedy left her disabled.
Olson claims she was severely injured and suffered brain bleeding after struggling with Sacha and his film crew at the event, held in Palmdale, Calif., two years ago. The lawsuit states she now needs a wheelchair or cane to move around.
Olson’s lawsuit said that at the bingo game Cohen — in character as flamboyant gay Austrian Bruno — pushed her and she fell, and then she was surrounded by his cameramen, who attacked and filmed her.
She later escaped to a side room, where she fainted and hit her head.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages of more than $25,000.
