Sacha Baron Cohen is The Dictator!
The comic genius behind knee-slapping mockumentaries Borat and Bruno is adding another outrageous character to his controversial repertoire: a Saddam Hussein-inspired dictator who’s just been knocked off the top job. On Thursday, Paramount Pictures released the first promotional photo of Cohen in costume for The Dictator, a spoof on a story written by terror mastermind Saddam Hussein himself. The story draws inspiration from Zabibah & The King, a book published anonymously in Iraq and later found to be written by Hussein. It’s said to parallel Iraqi and American relations, portraying Iraq as peaceful and the US as war-mongering.
The movie revolves around a dictator who is replaced by a lookalike goat-herder, both roles played by Baron Cohen. The ex-ruler leaves to find meaning in New York City, where he encounters an organic store owner played by Anna Faris.
The movie is scheduled for release in May 2012. Is it too soon to pre-order tickets!?
