Russell Crowe is set to share the screen with singing star Beyonce in a forthcoming remake of the classic motion picture A Star Is Born, London’s Daily Star has dished.

Oscar winner Robert Downey, Jr. had been pitted for the lead role, but the “Gladiator” star has apparently replaced him. Crowe will reportedly play an aging alcoholic musician who mentors and falls in love with a talented young star, portrayed by the “Single Ladies” singer.

Nick Cassavettes has been tapped to helm the movie musical, which is rumored to feature Mad Men’s Jon Hamm and songbirds Alicia Keys and Rihanna.

A Star Is Born first struck box office gold in the 1930s and has been reworked twice since its debut: first with Judy Garland and James Mason in 1957 and then with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson taking the leads in 1976.

Don’t jump the gun. In response to this false “news” Crowe told an Australian reporter that he’d only had a casual conservation about the film. He wasn’t signed on or committed to it.

I’ll believe it when i see it or at least hear about it from Beyonce herself. There was another rumor that she and Eva Longoria was supposed to star in sum lesbian film and also that Beyonce was starring in the remake of “Sister Act” renaming it “Sister, Sister” and also some other movie that i 4got the name to…so again, i’ll wait until i hear from beyonce confirming this or at least until i see photos of the movie shoot like i did obsessed and cadillac records.
