He’s already won the title of American Idol. Now Ruben Studdard hopes to add Biggest Loser to his resume. The portly soul singer will compete on the upcoming 15th season of The Biggest Loser, NBC said Monday.
After cutting meat from his diet in 2006, the Idol Season 2 champ managed to drop 60 pounds. But his 2012 split from ex-wife Surata Zuri McCants and a mountain of tax debt to contend with, the pounds have begun to make their way to Ruben’s midsection again.
Now tipping the scale at over 400 pounds and approaching the big 4-0, Rub’s fearful that his health’s at risk. That’s why he’s enlisting the help of the hit weight-loss reality competition and its popular trainers — exercise sadist Bob Harper and bellowing spitfire Jillian Michaels — as he works to get into the best shape of his life.
“I’ve never had an issue with my weight. [But] my family has a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart-related issues — things I didn’t have to deal with yet because I’m young. But I don’t want to be worried at 40 and if I don’t fix things now, I will be.”
The Biggest Loser 15 premieres this fall on NBC.
