Outspoken comedienne Rosie O’Donnell is saying it’s a “miracle” that she’s alive after suffering a heart attack last week.
In a blog titled “my heart attack,” the 50-year-old star recalls falling ill with debilitating chest pains as she aided a woman who was stuck in her car.
“i had an ache in my chest
both my arms were sore
everything felt bruised
muscular — i thought”
She continued going through the day but “the pain persisted.” Finally, she writes, her skin was “clammy” but she was “very, very hot. I threw up.”
“maybe this is a heart attack
i googled womens heart attack symptoms
i had many of them
but really? — i thought — naaaa”
She took Bayer aspirin — just like she had seen in ads on TV — and headed for the emergency room. Doctors discovered that 99% of Rosie’s coronary artery was blocked. They inserted a stent and she is now at home resting comfortably.
But Ro can’t stop thinking about what could have been had she ignored the warning signs.
“They call this type of heart attack/the Widow Maker/i am lucky to be here.”
It’s been a tough year for the Emmy-winning former talk show host. Oprah’s struggling OWN pulled the rug out from under her ill-fated gabfest earlier this year. And just a few months later, Rosie’s fiancee, Michelle Rounds, was diagnosed with a rare cancer-like disease called desmoid tumors.
