Robin Roberts accepts ESPY Arthur Ashe Award
The ESPY Awards are always a great night to honor the best in Professional Sports but every year the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage reminds us that the adversity that some face, is a battle that not all of us are cut-out for.
Recipients of this award include Jimmy Valvano, Pat Summit, Nelson Mandela, Muhammad Ali and now Good Morning America journalist, Robin Roberts.
Robin, who began her career at ESPN, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. After ,multiple rounds of treatment, Robin beat breast cancer and was seemingly back in good health. Then, in 2012 Roberts was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a disease that came as a side effect from her cancer treatment. Robin underwent a grueling bone marrow transplant, donated by her sister Sally, and recovery that took months.
The Arthur Ashe Award for courage was presented to Robin by NBA star and friend, LeBron James.
