In an interview with MTV’s It’s On With Alexa Chung Monday, Rihanna opened up on why she sat down for a tell-all interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer, which aired last week. While Chris Brown would prefer to keep the details of his February assault on the Bajan princess private, Rihanna — who appeared in a red and black hoodie and stylish ankle boots — says she’s speaking out to help others victims of domestic violence.

“Are you glad that you can now move on now that you’ve done that?” Alexa asked.

“Yeah, and that’s one of the main reasons I did it,” Rihanna explained. “And also to give insight to people who have been through what I have.”
