It took a while, but Rihanna’s finally scored a No. 1 album.
Unapologetic, Rihanna’s seventh album in seven years, rose to the top of the Billboard 200 this week. Of course she took to Twitter to share the good news with the “Rihanna Navy.”
“Wait!!!!! What the f**k?!!!!” the 24-year-old hitmaker tweeted Wednesday. “#UNAPOLOGETIC just debuted at #1 in AMERICA!!!!! My first number 1 album there!!! Thank you Navy, u deserve it…I’m legit crying like a p-sy right now!! #UNAPOLOGETIC.”
Interestingly enough, Rihanna — an unabashed perfectionist — initially feared her latest offering might be a commercial failure because she rushed it.
“When I was making the album, it was hard, man, I’m not gonna lie. I got really freaked out when we pulled the trigger with our single and I was like, ‘This album needs to be just as great and I don’t feel like I have enough time.’ I wasn’t gonna put it out if it wasn’t great or perfect, so I was getting really worried. We would have had a song floating out there without an album…”
Unapologetic’s lead single, “Diamonds,” has spent the past two weeks as the bestselling song in the country, making the track Rihanna 12th No. 1 hit.
