Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has admitted to having an extramarital affair with a 42-year-old former employee, but denies fathering the woman’s daughter.

The one-time North Carolina senator told ABC News’ Bob Woodruff on Friday that he has been lying for nearly a year about sleeping with Rielle Hunter as his devoted wife Elizabeth was battling cancer. He insists he didn’t love Rielle and claims Elizabeth’s cancer was in remission when he started poking this side chick. (We don’t buy it!)

Edwards first met Hunter when the documentarian was hired to film videos of the politician on the presidential campaign trail.

Edwards says that although he has not taken a paternity test for Rielle’s infant daughter it is not possible that he fathered the baby because the timing of the affair and the date of birth do not add up.

John already has three children with Elizabeth, who he has been married to since 1977.

The politican also denies paying Rielle to keep her piehole shut about their relationship.

Rumors of Edwards’ extramartial affair first surfaced in the National Enquirer last October. At the time, the Edwards camp swiftly responded, saying “The story is false, it’s completely untrue, it’s ridiculous.”
