Ridley Scott will direct a new film based on the Gucci fashion empire. The film will follow the history of the Gucci family through the last thirty years.

The fashion house was founded in Florence by Guccio Gucci in 1906 but it is believed that the film will mostly focus on the period from 1983, when Maurizio Gucci (Guccio’s grandson) took over the empire until his death in 1995.

Maurizio was killed in a shooting on the eve of a fashion show hosted by, Tom Ford, who had just started working for the house. His ex-wife was later convicted of arranging the killing.
