Ricky Gervais Singer? Acid-Tongued Comic Was An ’80s Pop Star!
Betcha didn’t know that before Ricky Gervais was throwing daggers at Hollywood heavyweights the offensive funnyguy was one-half of a New Wave pop duo that enjoyed moderate success on the airwaves back in the 1980s? We had no idea!
He doesn’t talk about it much, but Ricky was the lead singer of Seona Dancing, a collaborative effort the future comic forged with high school friend, Bill Macrae, in 1982. Inspired by other popular New Wave bands of the era, including Soft Cell, The Motels, The Pretenders, and The Cars, Seona Dancing ultimately inked a recording contract with London Records and soon released two singles, including “Bitter Heart,” which has gained new life on the Interwebs, thanks to this vintage video promo.
