Richard Hilfiger — Son Of Designer Tommy Hilfiger — Skates On Drug Charge
Only in Cali! The son of fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger has escaped prosecution on drug charges after cops decided against trying to convict him on drug dealing charges following his summer arrest.
Aspiring hip-hopster Richard “Young Rich” Hilfiger, 20, was pulled over in Hollywood Aug. 1 and taken into custody after officers allegedly found two ounces of marijuana in his vehicle. Hilfiger claimed her purchased the ganja for medical purposes but was booked on one felony count of drug possession with intent to sell anyway. However, authorities in the cash-strapped state of California have declined to prosecute on the charge.
It’s all apart of a campaign to safe the state money, authorities say.
Last week, Governor Arnold Schwarznegger signed a new law that lowers possession of up to one ounce of marijuana to a mere summons or infraction rather than a misdemeanor. Basically having the stuff and getting caught would be similar to getting a speeding ticket.
“In this time of drastic budget cuts, prosecutors, defense attorneys, law enforcement and the courts cannot afford to expend limited resources prosecuting a crime that carries the same punishment as a traffic ticket,” the governor said in a statement.
