Chelsea Handler will end her late-night chatfest and leave E! once her contract with the network expires at the end of the year, The Hollywood Reporter said Sunday.
The dish comes courtesy of Handler’s manager, Irving Azoff, who told the trade paper:
“Chelsea intends to leave when her contract expires. She hired me to figure out her life after E! We have at least seven suitors and many ideas.”
The possibility of a radio show and even an all new talk show on another network or digital service are among the aforementioned, Azoff says.
Chelsea Lately has been the hallmark of E!’s late-night lineup for the past eight years. Handler found fame with the show while dating then-E! president Ted Harbert.
But the best-selling author’s never been shy about voicing her displeasure — and the flippant comedienne hasn’t been pleased with the politics at E! for some time. She slammed the entertainment hub while appearing on The Howard Stern Show on March 5, describing E! as “a sad, sad place to live.”
Well, that’s up for debate. Nevertheless, E! still owns her…at least until December. It’s a fact a network rep eloquently pointed out in a statement of its own.
“Chelsea has nine months left on her contract and E! will not comment on the future of Chelsea Lately at this time.”
