Boy bander Nick Jonas and Neptunes superproducer Pharrell Williams are in talks to join the judging panel of American Idol, those in-the-know tell Us Weekly.
Shh! Don’t tell Aretha!
With Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler out and veteran pundit Randy Jackson expected to move to a mentoring role, the pair are the latest frontrunners for the two vacant seats alongside Mariah Carey, the tabloid said Monday.
“Nick is pretty close to signing to be the Idol judge. They flew him in to L.A. last week for final meetings. American Idol producers think he can help bring that younger demo to the show.”
That’s the same logic X Factor honcho used when they appointed Nick’s former Camp Rock co-star Demi Lovato a spot on the judges’ panel of that Fox talent show.
Meanwhile, Pharrell is currently negotiating the terms of his contract with the source adding:
“Everything is looking good, but they’re still working out details.”
Just last week, Mariah confirmed that she has agreed to a record $18 million-a-season deal to front Idol, which is expected to debut its 12th season in January 2013.
