Report: Matt Lauer in the Running to Replace Alex Trebek as Host of “Jeopardy!”

Embattled Today host Matt Lauer is among the names in contention to replace Alex Trebek as host TV’s Jeopardy!

Trebek’s three-year contract expires in 2016 when he’ll be 76, meaning his time as host of Jeopardy! is likely coming to an end. Word on the Curb has it that Lauer could use the new gig to reinvent himself after the recent rash of less-than favorable reports about his future with NBC. Matt’s been publicly slammed since he allegedly masterminded the ousting of former Today co-host Ann Curry last June.

Additionally, CNN’s Anderson Cooper, NBC Nightly News host Brian Williams and NBC Sports personality Dan Patrick are all under consideration to take over the Jeopardy! Trebek has been the host of Jeopardy! since 1984.
