Singing/rapping/wig-wearing sensation Nicki Minaj is set to join Mariah Carey as a judge on the next season of American Idol, if new buzz heating up the blogosphere is to be believed.
But that very gossip has reportedly made Madame Carey a very unhappy diva.
TMZ is reporting that the newly-minted talent show judge hung up the phone when she was informed that the “Starships” femcee is being considered for the panel. Those in-the-know say Mariah was led to believe she’d be the only woman at the judges’ table.
The site writes:
“Choosing Nicki would not only crush that expectation, it would add insult to injury because Nicki (29) is a lot younger than Mariah (42).”
Drah-mah! The bootylicious Trinidadian-born star is sure to give Mariah a run for her money in the fashion (and cleavage) stakes. But we’d hazard a guess Mariah won’t be doing the green hair thing anytime soon. You may recall that Nicki and Mariah collaborated on the songbird’s 2010 single “Up Out My Face.”
Recently sidelined by an injury to her vocal cords, Nicki, 29, is keeping mum on the A.I. rumors. But an Us Weekly insider says she is “100 percent” on board to join the longrunning singing competition.
“I’m not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it. A few more slight things to sign off on, but it is happening.”
In a perhaps telling sign, Nicki postponed a number of upcoming tour dates telling her Twitter followers that when they “find out why I’m starting the fall tour a bit later, you will be VERY happy.”
So who will fill the final spot on the ever changing panel? The Hollywood Reporter named a shortlist topped by Keith Urban and Enrique Iglesias. Other rumors put Nick Jonas, Pharrell Williams and Sean “Diddy” Combs in the mix too.
