Queen Latifah Molested
Hip-hop-turned-Oscar-nominated actress Queen Latifah was the victim of sexual abuse as a child.
In the July issue of Essence — on newsstands June 12 — Queen Latifah reveals that she was once molested by a teenage babysitter and the incident left her unable to form meaningful relationships as an adult.
“He violated me,” the 39-year-old revealed.
“I never told anybody. I just buried it as deeply as I could and kept people at an arms length. I never really let a person get too close to me,” Queen continued. “I could have been married years ago, but I had a commitment issue.”
Latifah says she didn’t tell anyone untill the death of her brother when she was 22 years old. “I had to get it off my chest. My mother felt terrible. She was kind of a country girl, so she wasn’t up on how slick people could be. When I told my dad, he said nothing.”
The Hairspray star says she blamed herself for the sexual abuse for years, but came to terms with it after seeking the advice of a therapist. “I was a kid, and I had no power or control over the situation. I really wish I’d had the strength and the knowledge to say something sooner, because I always wondered, Did he do that to someone else? But I accept that the time for action has come and gone.”

For some reason your headline (no doubt intended to grab Google hits) strikes me as highly offensive. “QUEEN LATIFAH MOLESTED”…just…insensitive.

As the survivor of incest, I’m very sensitive to what she went through. However, this is my livelihood. I have to write headlines that will generate search engine hits — that’s how I eat. You’re entitled to your opinion, though.

On your Z-list blog, you can write stories however you see fit. On this blog I write my stories how I choose. If you don’t like it, that’s not my problem…There are hundreds of celebrity gossip blogs on the web….no one is begging you to be here.
You don’t do much besides complain anyway, so I wouldn’t consider it any major loss. You can kick rocks….
I have no problem with someone disagreeing with my view, but how fucking dare you come to my house and call my character into question? I’m so sick of motherfuckas coming her complaining and whining about everything. It’s celebrity gossip — not world peace. Get a damn life, you E-Thug! Why the fuck do you keep coming here if you hate this site so much?
I’m a realist! The woman was molested! How would you like me to write it? Fancying it up, isn’t going to change what happened. And I’m not here to be sensitive to people I don’t know. In this life, I take care of me, myself, and I first. I have to eat, I can’t afford to take hits. Futhermore, I’m not changing the title. I don’t care how much you bitch about it — your IP address and username can easily be banned from commenting on this site.
