Musician John Mayer and Academy Award-nominated actress Queen Latifah are joining forces with some of Sesame Street’s favorite residents for a new primetime special focusing on military families across America.

David Letterman’s production company Worldwide Pants is producing Coming Home: Military Families Cope With Change in association with Sesame Workshop.

The 30-minute special will shadow military personnel returning home to their families “with injuries, visible and invisible,” reps for the long-running children’s program announced on Wednesday.

“The men and women of our military have made indescribable sacrifices. The very least we can do is tell their stories, and to honor the bravery and strength of both the soldiers and their families,” Letterman says as he explains his company’s purpose for creating the television special.

Coming Home: Military Families Cope With Change will air April 1, 2009 on PBS.
