Pros and Cons of Communication
People communicate in a variety of ways, but there are three ways that have become incredibly popular. The three most popular types of communication are currently text messaging, calling and emailing. All of these are great, but each has its own pros and cons. Some of these will be obvious, but others might surprise you.
Text messaging is definitely the fastest and most convenient way to communicate with people. Not only do text messages just take a few seconds to write and send, but they are easy to make because nearly every cell phone has this capability.
While cell phone keyboards have become much better by getting larger and more responsive, it can still be difficult to send long messages. Not only that, but this is the worst way to communicate if you want to do business or talk about something personal. That’s because text messaging is seen as impersonal and unprofessional.
Everyone has a unique voice and individual way of talking, but that doesn’’t come across with text messages and emails. Phone calls are also the best way to talk about personal issues or do business if you can’t meet the person face-to-face.
At the same time, phone calls are inconvenient. Unlike an email or text message that allows you to answer when you’re ready, you have to talk to the other person or be considered rude. This can be a problem at times if you’re busy or in a crowded room. It can also make it difficult to talk about personal things.
Email offers the best of both worlds. It’s convenient because you can answer whenever you want, and it allows for longer and more personal messages. You can also send emails from both smartphones and computers. Another benefit is that you have a record of the entire conversation.
The drawback about emailing is that it’s sometimes difficult to tell what someone really means. For example, someone might be mad, but you might think that he or she is happy or sarcastic based on the wording. Emailing can sometimes be personal enough for business conversations.
