Princess Beatrice Royal Wedding Hat Charity eBay Auction
Princess Beatrice’s outrageus taste in headwear is about to raise a bundle for the UNICEF.
The British bachelorette became the target of debate hilarious memes when she wore a much-panned cashmere topper, designed by Philip Treacy, to the April 29 nups of her cousin Prince William and his college sweetheart Kate Middleton. Bea’s mother Sarah Ferguson — the one who wasn’t invited to the wedding — announced on Oprah that the infamous head piece is going up for auction. All proceeds will benefit a deserving charity.
“She’s putting it up on eBay to auction it for UNICEF and for children in crisis,” The Original Fergie told Oprah in an interview this Wednesday.
Beatrice’s headpiece was one of almost 40 hats Treacy created for Will and Kate’s guests. Although his design has become so mocked that its’ spawned a 130,000-member strong Facebook fan page — “Princess Beatrice’s Ridiculous Royal Wedding Hat ” — Treacy says he frankly doesn’t care if you don’t get it.
“My inspiration was beauty and elegance. It’s a 21st century royal wedding….” Princess Beatrice and her sister Eugenie didn’t request their controversial looks, Treacy says. Instead, they trusted Philip, a longtime friend to the Royal Family, to make them “beautiful.”
Gee, look how well that turned out.
“…Gorgeous and beautiful can be open to interpretation … I thought they looked gorgeous and beautiful. But no one is crying if anyone didn’t,” he added with a pout.
Beatrice, 22, stood by the bizarre fashion choice in a recent interview with Grazia.
“I think it’s wonderful that it’s had a reaction, it is just a hat after all, and now it has got its own Facebook page and so many fans. It’s an incredible response to that hat really, I’m glad it provoked so much conversation.”
