Pope Francis says the church shouldn’t “interfere spiritually” with gays and lesbians
Pope Francis raised a few eyebrows today when an article published around the world called for the Catholic church to relax it’s opposition to the spirituality with gays and lesbians.
In the interivew Pope Fracis states that the “church has the right to express its opinions but not to interfere spiritually in the lives of gays and lesbians.”
“The church has sometimes locked itself up in small things,” the pope said, “in small-minded rules. The people of God want pastors,” Francis continued, “not clergy acting like bureaucrats or government officials.”
While the Pope’s comments do not completely deviate from the stance of the Catholic Church they are a break in the traditional hard-line that the church has previously taken.
