Police In New Jersey Don’t Know Who Bob Dylan Is
Rock legend Bob Dylan was treated like a complete unknown by police in New Jersey last month.
The problem began when a resident called to report a suspicious-looking person wandering around the neighborhood.
On July 23, Dylan was in Long Branch, NJ, about a two-hour drive south of New York City, where he was set to perform as part of a tour, also featuring Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp, that was to play at a baseball stadium in nearby Lakewood, NJ.
Long Branch business administrator Howard Woolley says a 24-year-old police officer apparently was unaware of who Dylan is and asked him for identification.
“I don’t think she was familiar with his entire body of work.”
The singer of classics such as “Like a Rolling Stone” wasn’t carrying any, so officers escorted him back to his hotel, where staff there vouched for him. No charges were filed.
