Phil Spector Scared Of Charles Manson
Phil Spector has a new fan: Charlie Manson!
Convicted cult leader Charles Manson — the mastermind behind the LaBianca and Sharon Tate Murders in 1969 — has reached out to convicted music producer Phil Spector, suggesting that the two convicts collaborate on few songs.
Both men are serving life sentences in central California’s Corcoran State Prison.
The 68-year-old Wall of Sound producer was jailed for 15 years to life in May for the killing of actress Lana Clarkson. He was horrified to receive a note from Manson via a guard at the prison earlier this month.
“Phil Spector has been very, very alarmed and scared at the notion of Charles Manson contacting him for any reason,” Spector’s publicist Hal Lifson said in an interview with BBC 6 Music News on Wednesday.
“He is very worried that any association be made between himself and Charles Manson. Phil mentioned that he used to get phone calls from John Lennon and Tina Turner and now it’s Charles Manson calling, so he said, ‘Go figure.’ It was kind of a dark humor comment.”
Spector is said to be struggling to adapt to life behind bars. The man who once lived in a 35-room castle now spends his days in a 5×9 cell and only recently received access to a tiny television.
