Cee Lo Green will not be in the house when The Voice spins its furry red chairs around for a seventh season later this year. In February, Green announced on Ellen that he won’t be returning as a coach on NBC’s popular singing show. Just a month later, the network’s already found someone to assume the position: Pharrell Williams.
The announcement was made on Twitter Monday after a series of cryptic hints that Pharrell — who has long been courted by American Idol producers — would be packing up his arsenal of floppy hats and joining the format full-time. Shortly after, NBC made the announcement via press release, with executive producer Mark Burnett stating:
“I am thrilled to have Pharrell come back to The Voice family, and this time … as a coach. Continuing in The Voice tradition of having the biggest and most current music stars as coaches, Pharrell fits perfectly.”
The rest of the Season 7 coaching lineup will be revealed “at a later date.” It’s expected that series originals Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera will return.
Do you think Pharrell will make a good addition to the show?
