Paula Abdul Turns Down Gig On “So You Think You Can Dance” Over Feud With Nigel Lythgoe
For months, So You Think You Can Dance producer/ judge Nigel Lythgoe has been Tweeting anyone who will listen with the news that he’s personally invited Paula Abdul – who was an American Idol judge during his reign as the show’s producer – to appear as a judge on his hit FOX reality dance competition.
“I spoke to her yesterday morning… And I said we were going to Vegas for [‘SYTYCD’] Season 6 this weekend and what was she doing? Did she want a break? And she’s coming out to me and we’re going to talk about the opportunities there are out there,” Nigel told reporters during a FOX Television Critics Association panel in Pasadena last July.
But celebrity tattles tell The National Enquirer’s Mike Walker that an on-going feud between the former colleagues will prevent the famed former pop star and Idol judge from bringing her extensive dance/choreographer background to SYTYCD.
“Not only has Nigel never contacted Paula’s people about doing the show – he’s never asked her personally,” said the source. “Nigel knows full well that Paula despises him. They fought constantly when they worked together on ‘Idol.’ It was like a battlefield, with the two of them always fighting over creative decisions like dialogue between Simon Cowell and Paula. Nigel had Paula singing the blues on ‘Idol’ – so she’s definitely not up for any dirty dancing.”
