Paula Abdul Slams “American Idol” (Barbara Walters Sirius Radio Interview)
Paula Abdul has blasted producers of American Idol of exposing her to the crazed fan who committed suicide outside her California home last month.
Paula claims Idol bosses allowed Paula Goodspeed to audition on three separate occasions, knowing she had stalked the star for 17 years.
Speaking on talk show host Barbara Walters’ Sirius Satellite radio show on Monday night, Paula said, “She came to the audition. I said, ‘This girl is a stalker of mine. Please do not let her in.’ I was shaking.”
“The producers thought, for entertainment value, it would be funny. Fun for them to cause me stress. It would make good television…If you look at the audition on YouTube, you’ll see I couldn’t even look up.”
Paula further blasted the FOX talent competition by calling out fellow judge Simon Cowell.
“He’s in my ear saying crazy things while I’m trying to formulate something with grace and dignity,” she insisted.
“I’m trying not to listen to him, he’s saying things like: ‘Say the moth that finds the melon ball in a wonton will win’ . . . and I start laughing.”
“He claims that . . . what he’s creating is great TV,” Paula said of Simon. “But I said, ‘What you’ve created is doubt in my character, defamation in my character and you’ve lied.”
“Believe me, I’ve lost a lot of money, I’ve lost endorsements.”
When Barbara asked why Paula was still working on the show she replied, “Well, I’m still under contract.”
