The Fast and Furious franchise will live on with a little help from Paul Walker’s brothers.
An announcement posted on the movie’s Facebook page Tuesday revealed that Caleb and Cody Walker will stand in for Paul in Fast 7. The elder Walker played undercover cop Brian O’Connor in all but one of the Fast films. He had filmed the majority of his scenes for the seventh installment of the hot rod franchise before his death in a car crash in November.
Paul’s sudden passing through production into a tailspin. Shooting had been on hold since the accident before resuming earlier this month. With the addition of the younger Walkers, Fast 7 is back on track for a April 2015 theatrical release.
“We came together and all felt the only choice was to continue. We believe our fans want that, and we believe Paul would want that too. Paul had already shot his dramatic scenes and most of his action for Fast and Furious 7, and it’s among the strongest work of his career. We have resumed shooting and now welcome Paul’s brothers, Caleb and Cody, into our Fast family. Caleb and Cody are helping us complete some remaining action for their brother and fill in small gaps left in production. Having them on set has made us all feel that Paul is with us too.”
Caleb and Cody will replace Paul in a number of key scenes. Computer graphics will be used to mask any discrepancies.
