Parks and Recreation writer Harris Wittels dies at age 30

Amy Poehler who is one of the stars of Parks and Recreation paid tribute to  Harris Wittels who is the show’s executive producer who passed away  yesterday  at the age of 30, of a suspected drugs overdose.

Poehler, who plays the deputy, Parks and Recreation director Leslie Knope, said she had lost ‘a dear young friend.’ Harris Wittels body was discovered in his Los Angeles home by his assistant around noon. Sources from the Police dept. said he was found on the couch, and there was drug paraphernalia nearby.

While at Variety magazine’s unite4humanity event, Poehler said, ‘Today I lost a dear, young friend in my life who was struggling with addiction, so, I don’t really feel like telling any jokes. ‘I’m kind of sad, and it’s really great to be here tonight and listen to all of you, and listen to the great work that you do and be reminded why we live in this bizarre planet called “Hollywood.”‘

Harris Wittels’s death is being investigated as a possible drug overdose, The Los Angeles County coroner’s office is till determining the exact cause of death.

The comic writer had spoken about his battle with addiction in the past and had twice been to rehab. Wittels had performed a stand-up set at The Meltdown Comedy Theater in Los Angeles the night before he was found dead. Wittels had made jokes about being clean and sober on the set and said he was in a good place in his life.
