Paris Hilton may be facing a serious threat at the Lynwood, California correctional facility where she is currently serving a twenty-three-day jail term for violating her probation. The Century Regional Detention Center is overrun with staph infection, over 402 inmates have been diagnosed with the serious infection in the last year.

For every 1,000 inmates that enter the facility, thirteen will contract some version of this infection that is caused by the staphylococcus bacteria, according to Inside Edition, who broke the scoop.

“MRSA is a kind of staph infection that means it’s resistant to the first line of antibiotics we usually use to treat staph infection,” she continues, “That is the kind that is so prevalent right now or so common in the jail.”

“At this time it’s impossible to eradicate staph because it’s spread person to person. It can be asymptomatic and there is no vaccine.”

Staph infection can cause serious inflammation and even spread into the blood stream or bone which would then have to be treated by intravenous antibiotics.

“If the infection were to get to the blood or bone the first thing people would have would be fever chills and if it got into the bone they would have a lot of tenderness.”

Paris is at a lesser risk than the other inmates of contracting the infection due to her serving out her sentence away from the general population.

“Anyone in isolation will have a less likely chance of contracting staph.”
