Parents Get Birthmark Tattoos to Support Daughter

Two parents from Britain have gone and got themselves tattooed with design that resembles the red birthmark that covers their daughter’s body so that she wouldn’t feel different.

Honey-Rae Phillips, who is just 18 months old, was born with a red birthmark that has continued to grow in size as she grows. The birthmark is now covering almost half of her entire right side.

Tanya Phillips- Honey-Rae’s 40-year-old mother- said her daughter birthmark is the result of medical difficulties Honey-Rae went through after her birth.

The Mother of the 18 month old told the Mirror, “She’s struggled to breathe when she was first born and was rushed to the special care unit. When I went to see her she was just lying in a little incubator and that’s when I saw it. It broke my heart. I just sobbed and sobbed knowing my baby was going to permanently marked for the rest of her life.”

To avoid strangers staring at her daughter Phillips had covered her legs whenever they went out in public. When she had dressed her in her shorts for the first time last summer, Phillips had overheard an elderly couple whispering among themselves about her daughter’s birthmark.

“And I knew if adults could be that insensitive, then kids at school would also be unintentionally mean.”

It was after that incident that both of Honey-Rae’s parents decided that their daughter would happier if she wasn’t the only one with a large birthmark. They went and got matching tattoos of Honey-Rae’s birthmark inked on their bodies so that she would never feel different and as a reminder that she will always have her parents’ love and support.
