Oscar De La Hoya Enters Rehab For Drug Addiction

The last time we ran into boxing great Oscar De La Hoya while pounding the pavement for celebrity dish, the bruisin’ brawl was shouting “Conspiracy!” after a slew of reportedly-doctored images of him prancing around in a tutu women’s underoos sent the Interwebs into a tailspin. Nearly four years later, Oscar’s back in the news; and the latest developments in his life are just as humiliating. De la Hoya has entered an unidentified Californian rehabilitation clinic to seek treatment for what spywitnesses say is a dangerous addiction to drugs. Word in Celebsville has it that De La Hoya went into the clinic some time within the past few weeks.

“After doing an honest evaluation of myself, I recognize that there are certain issues that I need to work on. Like everyone, I have my flaws, and I do not want to be one of those people that is afraid to admit and address those flaws,” De La Hoya told TMZ.com in a statement Sunday. “Throughout my career and my life, I have always met all challenges head-on, and this is no different. I am confident that with the support of my family and friends, I will become a stronger, healthier person. I ask for respect and privacy as my family and I go through this process.”

Former six-division champion De La Hoya enjoyed a career record of 39-6 before retiring following a loss to Filipino champ Manny Pacquiao in Dec. 2008. He eventually set up the Los Angeles-based boxing firm Golden Boy Promotions.
