Orange Is The New Black seems to be one of those shows that just gets even more popular after each season debuts. The series was recently renewed for its 4th season before season 3 was available to watch, which almost never happens with a TV show.

The series is a Netflix exclusive and it is one of the first shows that was responsible for the term “binge-watching” when its first season was made available for streaming in the summer of 2013. It is set in a women’s prison and features a lot of colorful characters that make viewers want to keep watching more, working well to blend comedy and drama.

It pushes boundaries on what is possible and draws in a wide variety of viewers, receiving positive attention for its treatment of the LBGTQ community. The series has received multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and most notably Laverne Cox, the first transgendered person to be nominated for an Emmy.

Take a look at the trailer for season 3 of the critically-acclaimed show:

Orange Is The New Black’s return is, of course, great for fans who want to keep watching their favorite trouble-making inmates, but what does this mean for them? It certainly says something about the show when they are able to renew it before the current season has aired.

The series stars Taylor Schilling in the main role of Piper Chapman, but she is hardly a main character as the great ensemble cast is truly what makes the show such a treat to watch. Other notable cast members include Uzo Aduba, a recent award winner, Natasha Lyonne, Kate Mulgrew, Taryn Manning, and Laura Prepon, just to name a few.

The news of the show’s renewal was revealed by Uzo Aduba on Good Morning America on Wednesday, who plays “Crazy Eyes” on the show. She also presented a clip of her character discussing the fate of Vee with Taystee, Poussey, and Black Cindy, something that fans have certainly been doing ever since that dramatic scene to end the second season.

Orange Is The New Black will return with its third season on June 12th. The third season will not feature Jason Biggs who previously played Piper’s fiance, but new cast members will be joining such as Ruby Rose, Mary Steenburgen, Blair Brown and Mike Birbiglia, as well as Lori Petty, who appeared once in the season two premiere.
