Oprah Joins Twitter
The Queen of Television is expected to begin using the Internet’s most cutting edge social networking site on Friday.
Oprah Winfrey has signed up at Twitter.com/Oprah and already has more than 40,000 Twitter followers, despite the fact that she’s yet to post a single “Tweet.”
Buzz on the blogosphere is that O will post her first Twitter message during this Friday’s edition of The Oprah Winfrey Show, which will be devoted to the social networking site.
Twitter’s CEO Evan Williams will appear on the show. So will Ashton Kutcher, who Tweets several times each day and became the first Twitter fanatic to garner 1 million followers on Thursday night. Both men will explain the appeal of the site’s trademark 140-character posts.
Twitter’s popularity has exploded in recent months. The New York Times reports that 14 million people visited the site in March, up from 8 million in February.
