Who woulda thunk Laurence Fishburne’s Super Bowl ad for Kia would have stirred up so much dramah?
Black History Month took an ugly for Samuel L Jackson when the actor was mistaken for the Matrix star during an interview with KTLA anchor Sam Rubin.
The embarrassing gaffe went down live on the air this morning. As you’d expect, the always opinionated Samuel L. — who is busy promoting his work in the RoboCop reboot — was anything but pleasant after Rubin remarked:
“You’re working for Marvel, the Super Bowl commercial; did you get a lot of reaction for that Super Bowl commercial?”
Someone forgot to tell Sam that while Samuel has done some work with Capital One, he wasn’t in a Super Bowl commercial this year.
“What Super Bowl commercial?” Jackson replied, just before pouncing. “See, you’re as crazy as the people on Twitter. I’m not Laurence Fishburne!”
Rubin tried to apologize, but he wasn’t getting off without a full ribbing…Samuel style.
“We don’t all look alike. We might be black and famous but we don’t look alike…You’re the entertainment reporter for this station? And you don’t know the difference between me and Laurence Fishburne?”
Rubin repeatedly apologized and tried to steer the conversation back to RoboCop, but Jackson refused to drop the matter. Just when you thought it couldn’t get anymore cringeworthy, Samuel went and drug Morgan Freeman into things.
“I’m the other guy, the other one. ‘What’s in your wallet?’ I’m that guy. There’s more than one black guy doing commercials. I’m the ‘What’s in your wallet?’ credit card black guy. He’s the car black guy. Morgan Freeman is the other credit card black guy.”
