One Person Killed After Madonna Concert Stage Collapses In France
At least one person is dead and a half dozen others are injured after a portion of Madonna’s “Sticky and Sweet” stage set collapsed at an arena in Marseille, France on Thursday.
French police tell NME.com that the accident occured in Nice’s Stade Velodrome at 5:15 PM local time (11:15 AM EST) after a stage being constructed fell apart on top of several workers.
“I am devastated to have just received this tragic news,” Madonna said in a statement. “My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news.”
The concert, which had been scheduled for this Sunday, July 19, has been cancelled.
