Olivia Newton-John is mourning the death of her older sister. Rona Newton-John, 64, passed in Los Angeles on May 25, ending a brief battle with brain cancer.
Olivia paid tribute to Rona, who was also an actress, on her Facebook page on Thursday:
“My beautiful sister Rona sadly passed on May 24th in Los Angeles. Rona died of a very aggressive brain tumor and mercifully suffered no pain. She was surrounded by the love of her four children — Fiona, Brett, Tottie and Emerson and her wonderful friends. I will miss her forever — my beautiful, smart, talented, funny, brave sister Rona.”
The “Physical” hitmaker postponed her Vegas residency at the Flamingo Hotel to be with her family when Rona diagnosed earlier this year. Olivia suffered her own health scare after being diagnosed breast cancer in the early 1990s. She has been in remission after undergoing treatment and a mastectomy.
In the wake of Rona’s death, Olivia has announced plans to add a brain tumor wellness program to her Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness Center to honor her beloved sister.
“In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the ONJCWC where a brain tumor wellness program will be started in her name. Thank you all for your kind words of love and support.”
