Nicole Kidman was a disgraceful ambassador to Australia on the David Letterman show. She acted like an uptight, defensive wanker. I am sure no one will want to watch the film “Australia” after seeing that lame performance which is completely contradictory to most laid back Aussies. Thankfully, Letterman remained humble and tried to revive the negative mood Nicole kept creating. I love Letterman and I hope he is not put off Aussies after that painful interview. Nicole just came across as an opportunistic cow who only wants to promote her film and has no sense of humour. Although this will be no surprise to anyone here in Australia - she is a nonevent in the eyes of most Aussies.

I am amazed by this article. If there was anything wrong it was all Letterman’s fault. She came to talk about the movie and we ended up with only a 30 second clip. Why? Because Mr. Letterman would not let go talking trivia such as Nicole’s husband, her child and his own child, and horses.
Letterman used to be good but now he very often go to the trivia throughout his interview instead of talking about the subject for which the guest was to appear on his show. The worst is when he begins rumbling about children Who in the audience is interested o hear about changing diapers, kids preferred games, etc.. Nicole was right whe she suggested that he simply invites her husband if he wanted to talk about his career.
I hope she goes to Leno or Ferguson so that we have a chance to know what this movie is about.

You miss the point Bruno, this isn’t just free advertisement for someone to hawk their lame wares, its a deal: They get some publicity and they MUST also be entertaining. Yes they mention the movie, but they must also talk about other things. How can she not know this if she is 68 or how old it is she is. She slipped up, and as Rebecca said she came across as someone who only wanted to talk about that movie. I dislike the movie now simply because of the negative waves she emitted.

Move out Letterman! Your use-by date expired with noir. Letterman solely is responsible for the interview going pearshaped.
He has demonstrated many times that he is a right-wing american who suppoorts those the corporation tells him to. This one-eyed, ‘good ole’ boy, is propped up by some good writers, but he is floundering in the 21st century environment. Letterman is reknown as a control freak on the set when it comes to his image, and Stars have every right to expect that he will treat their careers with the same respect as he treats his own.
Remember the interview with Julia Roberts when he refused to discuss her new film but constantly sought to discuss Madonna? Letterman is no longer entertaining. Give someone fresh and constructive a chance. Move out Letterman!

Letterman is not as good of an interviewer as he used to be, sometimes not getting as much out of his interviews as he could have. But…Nicole was obviously very uptight, wanting to just show up for the movie, when the reason we watch is to find out more about her and her life—and of course a bit about whatever she is promoting. She failed to recognise that she was the ‘invited’ guest and it was up to her to ‘go with the flow’ and turn the conversation around to the movie. she sure perked up when talked turned to her daughter, so it seems like she wanted it ‘her way or no way’. I was disappointed as I thought I liked her, but this sure changed my feelings about her.

As a long time Nicole Kidman fan and a fellow australian,I must say this interview was extremely painful to watch I was squirming in my seat!! In saying that…… it’s not the only interview I have seen with Nicole that was’nt painful to watch………..she’s useless unless she has a script.Sorry Nicole.BUT I agree David Letterman is “not as good as he used to be” nor does he appear to take anyone seriously.Conclusion….Control freak + Control freak=Disaster.

It was a shame to see this clip, it showed Kidman in such a bad light. I’m an Australian, and we constantly see live interviews with her and she is a intelligent mature woman, however, on the Letterman show that night the two were on opposite wavelengths. Letterman showed a very American view of Australia, the same view us Australians cant relate to in the slightest as we are so very misunderstood. She wasn’t being uptight or rude, she simply wasn’t understanding him and couldn’t stop laughing at the polar opposites the two were on.
I dont blame her for not wanting to spend the 15 minutes talking about her husband. It was like a pop quiz on his life, i personally don’t like sitting down in a crowd of people giving a summary of my partners life.
I wouldn’t judge Kidman on this clip, she’s an amazing girl and actor. I’m not a big fan or anything, but shes a perfect ambassador for Australia in every aspect. She has such a laid back attitude generally. I blame Lettermans poor handling of the interview and his inability to ‘move on’ from a topic Kidman clearly didn’t want to continue discussing.

David Letterman is a dinner-theatre comedian, not a good interviewer. He’s constantly looking for chinks in the armour and has a nasty edge to his personality.
She was poised and clear and snappy; he was just clumsily trying to get to Keith’s ‘issues’.
As for all the crocodil dundee schmaltz, Nicole Kidman was born in Hawaii and has dual citizenship. She’s just as much American.

If I am not mistaken, it wasn’t so much that Nicole only wanted to talk about the movie, but rather that she didn’t want to talk about her husband Keith. She was more than happy to discuss other non-movie related topics like her daughter.

i’m an american living downunder and i think nicole did a great job with david letterman. he was obviously gobsmacked by her beauty and she was clever and funny and handled herself well. i didn’t realize she had such a good sense of humor. good onya nic!

David was strangely starstuck by Kidman at the ouset and couldnt work out how to recover - he fixated on her husband as a way of avoiding fawning and the combination of false starts eventually startled the horse (excuse the pun). Kidman tried valiantly to stay composed but Letterman never regained his balance, and eventually she too ran out of equilibirum. Stellar television!

We were absolutely disgusted at the disrespect David Letterman showed to Nicole Kidman. It came across as a put down to Australia. We love America and have many American friends who are wonderful but have you ever read the book “The Ugly American”? He showed up in David Letterman in that interview. Nicole handle it very graciously.

Nicole cheia de botox não mostrava na estrevista suas verdadeiras feições. Letterman é mal educado porém Nicole estava muito perturbada e amedrontada e não soube conduzir de maneira sóbria as perguntas.

Nicole was just being funny. Any fan who know what she’s usually like would see that. She was funny. David as well as Jay Len always tease her in interviews and I think she tries to back at them. She’s a big star so they make it interesting.
It was quite funny.

I totally agree with IMHO. Letterman was awkward from the start, which understandably made Nicole feel awkward. The audience even appeared to side with her laughing with her when she’d laugh at the awkwardness rather than laughing with him. She does sometimes interview poorly but this was more a case of the interviewer not respecting certain prewarned “no-go” Qs/topics. Check out Oprah’s interview for a better promo of Australia, the movie.
