Actress Nicole Kidman testified on international violence against women before the House Foreign Affairs committee on Capitol Hill Wednesday. The Academy Award winner of features like Moulin Rouge and Nine conceded Wednesday that Hollywood has likely contributed to violence against women by portraying them as weak sex objects.

“I can’t be responsible for all of Hollywood but I can certainly be responsible for my own career,” she explained.

The Australian star was in Washington to advocate for legislation to fight violence against women overseas through grants and humanitarian relief efforts.

“We need the money,” she said.
