Nicolas Cage Arrested In New Orleans: “Go Ahead! Arrest Me!”
Fool Got Arrested: The Nic Cage Edition….
Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage was arrested in New Orleans French Quarter overnight on suspicion of domestic abuse and disturbing the peace, local authorities say. The star, who won an Oscar for his 1995 film Leaving Las Vegas, was taken into custody and charged after getting intoxicated and arguing with his wife, Alice Kim, about whether or not the house they were standing in front of was actually their own. Cage has been a frequent visitor to New Orleans over the years and still retains property there, despite a myriad of tax and other financial woes over the years.
Nic and Alic were standing in front of a property where the 47-year-old star believed they were renting an apartment, while his wife said the apartment was at another address. He reportedly grabbed her arm to pull her to what he believed was the correct property. A cab driver witnessed the argument and arm-grabbing and called police. When officers arrived on the scene, they reportedly told Cage and his wife to go home. According to TMZ.com, at that point, witnesses said, Cage told officers, “Why don’t you just arrest me?” Police said Cage began to hit parked cars with his hands, and attempted to get into a taxi before an officer ordered him out of it. Officers again told the couple to go home. But oh no, not Nic. Cage reportedly again dared them to haul him in.
That’s when cops called his bluff.
The Con Air actor was booked on charges of domestic abuse battery, disturbing the peace, and public drunkenness. As of Saturday afternoon, he remains in the Orleans Parish Prison. Bail has been set at $11,000; $10,000 for the domestic abuse charge and $1,000 for the disturbing the peace charge. Alice Kim insists there was no physical contact and has told police that she does not want to press charges.
Cage is reportedly due to appear in court on May 31.
