Nick Lachey is speaking about the media attention ex-wife Jessica Simpson has received in the wake of her recent weight gain.

The former 98 Degrees singer says he is shocked by the vast media coverage of the story.

“I can’t believe it’s this big of a story and people are making such a huge deal about it. I’m never ceased to be amazed by people’s reactions to things,” Nick said in an interview with Extra on Friday.

“I wish her nothing but the best and I hope she’s happy — whatever size that comes in.”

Nick, 35, and Jessica, 28, were married from 2002 to 2006. Nick is currently dating former MTV VJ Vanessa Minnillo.
