Backstreet Boy Nick Carter was noticeably absent as his younger sister was laid to rest in Upstate New York over the weekend.
The 32-year-old singer performed in Philadelphia and hosted a party at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City on Saturday night — just hours after other family members, including kid brother Aaron, attended the funeral of Leslie Carter.
An aspiring singer, Leslie, 25, died Feb. 1. Authorities believe she succumbed to an overdose of pills prescribed for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Nick posted a message on his website last week reassuring fans his upcoming US tour would go ahead, despite his sister’s death.
“Performing is cathartic to me and I am dedicating the rest of my tour to my sister since she loved to watch me perform…”
On Monday, Carter seemed to blame a family feud for keeping him from paying his respects to Leslie:
“I wanted to be at my sister’s funeral, but my family has always had a complicated dynamic, I love my family…There are so many emotions for me surrounding the loss of my sister. I am trying to stay healthy, positive and focused.”
TMZ insiders claim Nick — who joined his siblings on the defunct E! reality soap House of Carters — wanted to attend Leslie’s memorial but was given the details of when and where it would be.
Leslie is survived by a husband and a daughter.
